Today we're recording from Lutra Witter. I pay my respects to elders, past and present, and I acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. I am of the Beerupai people, and I'm proud to use my voice to honor the strength, stories, and resilience of my ancestors, whose culture has continued for more than 65,000 years, because it always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

unknown

It's Christy Bitch.

SPEAKER_01

She's the former home and away star who shone in Summer Bay for more than 500 episodes. But after her time by the beach came to an end, Christy Hayes found another passion behind the mic.

SPEAKER_05

Prime Minister, what does your government feel about that? Will we see this Royal Commission? There's calls for Royal Commission about everything. Well, I think deaths of women are pretty paramount.

SPEAKER_02

But you gotta work out what does a Royal Commission do besides fun lawyers.

SPEAKER_05

Bless Hubby Justin. But he brought home something yesterday, and it's those beautiful iced bulbs, you know, the beautiful. It is the world that I see the way he is so different. And I think that the world needs to be more patient with people that live with autism. And any parent out there knows what it's like to have an autistic child. There are wonderful days, but there's also really hard days. It's Christy, bitch. So here we are again. Thank you for being here. Especially you, Hubby Justin. You're a great co-host on Christy Hayes Daily. And uh you're a great friend and great broadcaster. And you're a great guy, you're very well loved.

SPEAKER_03

About a great husband.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah, that too. Sorry, that goes without sound.

SPEAKER_03

Great co-host, great friend, great technical support.

SPEAKER_05

Great camera operator.

SPEAKER_03

Great camera operator, great, great audio guy. Well, how about great husbands?

SPEAKER_05

Sorry, I'm not trying to friend zone you. You are a great husband.

SPEAKER_03

You're very much in the friend zone then.

SPEAKER_05

You are so not in the friend zone. But you were at first, we were friends. And it's funny that you mentioned being a husband because uh I put on Instagram a conversation that we did, you and I, just about divorcing, right? And uh and it was no just to say that if you can't give someone a marriage they deserve, then at least be decent and give them the divorce that they deserve. If you can't be a great spouse, then divorce well. Be amicable, be kind, just sort your shit out.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, probably don't use the phrase give them the divorce that they deserve because No, I like that.

SPEAKER_05

And yes, you know what? Flipping it, if someone treats you like shit, give them the divorce and they deserve- No, no, no. I I do know what you mean by that, but I think you understand what I'm trying to say is if you do care about their feelings, if you've let them down as a spouse, uh, you know, divorce them well if you can. You know, it's a difficult thing to get divorced. I've done it a few times. But this is actually an interesting point because now that I posted about that, I had all these messages from people saying how great it was when they got divorced. And obviously, if you're in a happy marriage, that's fantastic. We're so delighted for you. Yes, of course, it would be perfect.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we're not advocating divorce just for the sake of having a party.

SPEAKER_05

No, no, we're not. We're not at all. Although, if you are gonna have a divorce party, go for it. Nicole Kidman looked delighted when she got divorced from Tom Cruise. Um, divorce can be a blessing, and that's okay, just as though marriage can be a blessing. So, of course, again, I stress if it's a sad thing for you, then you know, you're in our heart and it's never a fun thing. Um, but if it's something that you want to do, great. But it brought me to the point that I was thinking about, which is how long it takes in Australia to be able to get divorced.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

So in Australia to get married, all you have to do is give 30 days notice.

SPEAKER_03

A month and one day, isn't it? Something like that.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, you you fill out a notice of intended marriage. So long as it's a legal consensual relationship, then yes, of course, the government gives you freedom and you can proceed. But on the flip side, to get divorced in Australia, before you've even started process, you have to be separated for 12 months. Now, there used to be this thing, I don't know the exact legalities, but if you were married for less than two years, you couldn't even apply to get divorced. You couldn't even have the separation. Really? The duration of your marriage, you had to go to counseling, you had to say, look, we've tried, like really ridiculous protocol that the government put in place. And it's like, how dare you do that? This is not even taking into account people that are living in an abusive situation. The horrific nature of abusive relationships, where A, you're brave enough to escape and you need to get out of this relationship for the safety of yourself, for the safety of your kids. And there are rare exceptions in Australia if your spouse is convicted of horrific crime. Um, yes, they can expediate that process. But if you're looking on the day-to-day, you can get married in Australia quite quickly, but it takes so long to be able to get divorced. And that's before you got to the courts. That's 12 months of separation before you even can apply. And that's another what 12 months or a year on top of that. Then if you have to figure things out because you don't get the divorce you deserve to go back to quote myself initially, then that's dragged out too. How can they say, yeah, you can get married easily, 30 days, one month, whatever it might be, but hey, we're gonna we're gonna just hand break your situation of freedom.

SPEAKER_03

So you're trying to you're saying that we need to make divorce easier, or do we say we have to be harder if you if you're good, if you want to get married, you have to go to a judge, and the judge has to then question you on whether or not it is the right thing to do.

SPEAKER_05

I like that. Why do you have to say, I want to get divorced, and a judge or a counselor says, Oh, is that the right thing to do? People should be able to go and see professionals before they get married, and someone in a legal situation says, Are you sure? Have you thought about this? I don't I see a lot of red flag here.

SPEAKER_03

Like So instead of having the divorce lawyers, you should should have no marriage lawyers. I think that I think we've got oh, hey, we're onto something here.

SPEAKER_05

Is a genius idea. If only you or I had any legal qualifications whatsoever, we would be onto something.

SPEAKER_03

I've got Chat GPT.

SPEAKER_05

But I think it raises a valid point. And I'm aware of the fact that there are people out there that want to leave relationships. I know this because they confide in me and they tell me, and I'm so grateful for being that space for a lot of women that listen to this show or have listened over the years or whatever. But I just think we have so much further to go. Like if you want to be free of a spouse, particularly again, and I highlight if they're abusive or if you need to get out, it shouldn't be this process that then you go, Oh my god, I'm still gonna be legally married to this person for the next year. Again, if it takes 30 days to give a notice of intended marriage and get married, then why in God's name is it sounds like that?

SPEAKER_03

Especially if both parties are saying, hey, yeah, let's get divorced. If they're they're happy to sign off on it. It should be just uh, yeah, okay, done.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, exactly. I mean, that's why you and I are gonna be together forever.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And we're terrible with paperwork.

SPEAKER_00

Christy Angel.

SPEAKER_05

So, hubby Justin. Yeah, there's a thing called social media. There's something called trending.

SPEAKER_03

Oh. I've heard about this. The Twitter. My space.

SPEAKER_05

Jesus Christ. You know it's not even called Twitter now, right? It's called X.

SPEAKER_03

X, I know.

SPEAKER_05

No, I pay you out, but Justin actually is like the head of operations for radio stations. He's very tech savvy, but deliberately you like digital detoxing. You don't buy into the drama, right?

SPEAKER_03

I don't buy into the drama of social media. I I don't I don't have the bandwidth for it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I don't know if that word's trendy, but anyway.

SPEAKER_03

Um It will now. The people that are listening to you watch it, it'll start.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. I'll I'll take your word for it. But this is going around and it has been for a while, and I always find this just something fun that people like to talk about. And it might be relatable to you. Have a think about what yours are. Message them to me on Instagram at Christy Hayes underscore hills I'd die on. Just basically means I I'll fall on this sword. I'm about to say something, and it's true. There's nothing that can change my mind. Like I will go down with this ship. I believe this opinion.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, I was literally when you said that I was trying to think of different hills.

SPEAKER_05

Oh gosh. No, no, no. I'm not talking about like actual hills. I'm not talking about The Hills are alive. Sound of music. There's a hill I die on, one of the greatest films of all time.

SPEAKER_03

I don't why would you die for? It's I I I I'm I'm lost. Okay, so this is me now completely not trending.

SPEAKER_05

Let me bring you up to 2026. Okay. The hill I die on. That it is totally acceptable to put up your Christmas tree on November 1st.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's not. It is.

SPEAKER_05

It is totally acceptable.

SPEAKER_03

And I yeah.

SPEAKER_05

It's totally a hill I would die on. And I'll tell you why. As we get into the lead up of Christmas, because you've got to remember for the Christmas people out there like myself, yeah, we're not that far away. We have to take this seriously. Because on November 1st, that is when you can technically, literally, and factually say, Christmas is next month. So we can put up the Christmas tree. What do you think about that as a heel to Dylan?

SPEAKER_03

I think it's a terrible one. And I'll tell you why. Okay. Because number one, because this year, well last year, last Christmas, I gave him my heart. The very next day you gave it away, sure. And then we got divorced. It was a whole different segment. Um, but we got a live Christmas tree. Yeah. It's not gonna last two months.

SPEAKER_05

Well, there's that. Maybe we could get it on November 1st, a live Christmas tree. I mean, let's be honest, we kept that Christmas tree up till February anyway.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, it was brown. I tried to pull that thing out. It it almost burst into flames when I took it out.

SPEAKER_05

I know that that is the danger that you go if you get the real Christmas tree. And this is not even a cashy flash tree.

SPEAKER_03

And we're still pulling pine needles out of our lounge room at the moment.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, are we? I was deliberately leaving them. I thought it added a nice genesic, nice Christmas kind of feel. But however you celebrate Christmas, if you celebrate Christmas, not everybody does. Whatever you do, that's great. Uh, highly recommend the whole November 1st thing, should you be wishing to try something new with your life, because that Christmas spirit stays with you for a very long time. Plus, the kids get excited because that's a nice extension of Christmas. I mean, we go to all this effort. My God, I feel like we should make it last longer than 25 days.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, see, we go to all this effort. I just want it to be over.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, you're such a Grinch! But speaking of being over pretty quickly, you don't need to have sex on your wedding night. That's a hill I die on as well. You don't need to have sex on your wedding night. It's great. Should we tell people what we did?

SPEAKER_03

Uh-uh. Well I'll let yeah. We we had pre-wedding.

SPEAKER_05

Keep going, don't look at me awkwardly. You're telling this story, man. I'm here for it.

SPEAKER_03

Well, at wedding. You don't remember because I do. Yeah, well, at wedding night you fell asleep when we were out to dinner, so.

SPEAKER_05

It was a long day. It was a really long day.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

It's a you know what? There's so much pressure on people to have to perform on the wedding night.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, it's great if you can't get you can't wait to get home and rip each other's clothes off after you've said goodbye to Grandma Beryl and you've had to free and kiss everybody in the room. But for instance, when Hubby Justin and I got married, we eloped. We we had a beautiful, amazing wedding, but it was just us and your gorgeous cousin James and his beautiful wife Helen. So we had two literal people at our wedding because we got married throughout COVID anyway. And we couldn't have guests. We live streamed our wedding to be.

SPEAKER_03

We did, yeah. To people with it, yeah, it was it which was fun. Like, I I I still think our wedding was the greatest wedding in the history of all weddings because you saved money on fedding a lot of people too, didn't you? And and we didn't have to talk to Grandma Beryl, so yeah, highly recommend it.

SPEAKER_05

That's a lot of pressure on couples too, for people that want to get married. That's a hill I will die on, also. You don't need to have a big wedding. Have a wonderful marriage, have a beautiful day, celebrate however you want to. And if you want to go out and have a big wedding and spend all the money, go for it. But um, you can do something even better from eloping just the two of you. And going back to the sex thing.

SPEAKER_03

I'm still on the Christmas tree.

SPEAKER_05

Why are you feeling a little bit towy, all this Christmas shadowy?

SPEAKER_03

No, but I tell can we talked about Christmas in the first of you know, putting it up on the first of November? Um, can we go into something that really does turn me on? Uh we're at Bunnings on the weekend.

SPEAKER_05

Jesus, yeah, you do love a good drill.

SPEAKER_03

But how good's Bunnings? But uh how was their um Halloween stuff that they had out already?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, I totally noticed, but I was here for it. You know, I'm such a traditionalist in terms of decoration.

SPEAKER_03

We're in August.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, of course that makes sense. It's because we're almost in October.

SPEAKER_03

But we're not all well we're ages away.

SPEAKER_05

But in two weeks' time, it's going to be September, right? So on the 1st of September, you can say, It's Halloween next month, and my birthday is Halloween.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, it is.

SPEAKER_05

So the 31st of October, I like you know me, any any Halloween excuse is very good for me. Like, we'll be decorating this caravan that we're in right now. We'll be doing Halloween theme at Halloween, we'll be doing Christmas. Like, the joy is not only in the day, but it's in the countdown to the day. Do you think? No.

SPEAKER_00

Christy Angel.

SPEAKER_03

So depending when you're listening to this episode, if you're listening to it on the day that it's come out and you're in Australia, it's a census night tonight.

unknown

Census.

SPEAKER_05

Not the six senses. Got anything to do with uh losing your senses. Yeah. Or feeling it. How many senses do we have? Six. Is that right? I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Touch, smell, um, taste, sight, hearing. Good work.

SPEAKER_05

And we'll come back to that. I'll have a Google while we continue. I can't remember the sixth sense.

SPEAKER_03

Uh seeing dead people.

SPEAKER_05

I was gonna say Bruce Willis is unforgettable. Uh, but we're talking about census C N S U S. Basically that frigging pain in the ass form that we all have to fill out tonight, uh, where you sit down and you say, who is in the house, who lives here. Interestingly, and I always come back to this, on census night, when you complete this arduous paperwork, to be fair, it only takes 10 minutes. Um, it's what it's weird how you don't actually talk about who lives there in your immediate family, although if those people are in the house you do, but you actually have to collate anybody who's just in the home in the evening. So, what if you have like I don't know, Uber Eats drive to private chat and a meal to say that happens and he wants to just come inside and have a cup of tea because you, you know, say, hey, are you cold outside? You want to come in and have a cup of tea? Um, which I think is really good.

SPEAKER_03

So we don't invite anyone over on census night.

SPEAKER_05

Well, good luck telling Mama Deb that.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, she'll rock up.

SPEAKER_05

She loves to rock up our beautiful mum. She's not our same mum, but I mean, yeah, we're not we don't have the same mum though. Justin's mother-in-law, but she's our mum. Yeah, well, my parents.

SPEAKER_03

I am my mother-in-law's favourite child though.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, she loves you more than me. She's made that abundantly clear. She told me that if you and I ever broke up, oh my god, we'd miss you, Christy. She's obsessed with you. I think in another life, she wishes she kind of married you. And maybe that's a bit.

SPEAKER_03

I don't think that. That's that's weird. And no.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I know it because I heard her say it to a best friend. That's because you're a green flag guy and everyone loves you. But going back to census, uh, you will be fined if you do not complete this form. How much? It's like $396 from what I was reading. Uh, don't quote me, but it's it's a high amount of money. I mean, I did see that on an Instagram meme, so a meme, so you can quote. Yeah. Um take it very seriously. This is more uh in demand, obviously, from the government than vote day. I think vote day, the fine used to be if you don't vote, it was 50 bucks. And then they with inflation they gradually increase that fine. Um, but censors night doesn't come with a barbecue, it doesn't come with the sausage, it doesn't come with a vacation.

SPEAKER_03

I don't get a sausage at a voting day anyway anymore.

SPEAKER_05

The last time I voted, but you and I went to vote at different times. I went in the morning. Didn't you go in the afternoon or something like that? Because you were off. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

I don't remember. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I got a sausage.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I get a sausage at Bunnings every time, so that's fine.

SPEAKER_05

Um but yeah, sensors. I wonder, you know, the differences that we'll see this year. It's interesting, isn't it? You know, population wise.

SPEAKER_03

It's actually not. You say it's interesting. I don't think it is. I I think it's far from interesting, to be quite honest. I I think it's the opposite of interesting.

SPEAKER_05

All right, okay.

SPEAKER_03

I understand why they do it. I understand why they do it, and I and I get that, and I understand the importance of it from a a nation building point of view to know exactly where everyone's at, you know, and try and work it out. But yeah, it's it it yeah, I don't know. I uh statistics, half the statistics that come out in this, all I want to know is what the population is at the moment, what the number is.

SPEAKER_05

Well, I I they so what do they do census like is it every five years this happens?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, m yeah yeah, no, yeah, it must be. I can't remember.

SPEAKER_05

Well, this is what Google tells me. But essentially the idea of it is to establish, hey, where do we need new roads? Where do we need new hospitals? Where do we need new schools?

SPEAKER_03

Where Well then go and ask that bloody question. Well, you don't ask me what my what my annual income is and uh and Oh, it's personal, isn't it?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah. And I hate that now because on paper I'm not paying for the bloody roads. On paper. Well, we are, but Yeah, well we are taxpayers too. Um but that's fine, you know. I'm I I like that we work as a society to accumulate our tax and we put those funds toward good things. So anyway, basically the idea of censors before we bore everybody because we're getting bored is just to talk about where we're gonna. Thank you for being here. Thanks for all the lovely messages we read, every single one. We love you so much. Um glad that you're loving this series. Uh, send me a message if you want at Christy Hayes underscores my Instagram. And um, if you get two seconds, it would be so lovely of you if you wouldn't mind to like, I don't know, write a review. Only if you can. Um, no pressure, of course, we have no expectation.

SPEAKER_03

But if you get a second Preferably a nice one.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah, that would be great too. Um, just so you know we can get the word out about our little show. But we really appreciate your support and um and we love you very much. So thanks for being here again. And it's funny, you know, you think about what people say about you online and how there is a a very strong ability now for people to say untrue things too about you online, not just hurtful things, but um untruthful. Uh, and this actually is about oh my god, a kid that I love, Robert Irwin. I think he's the most beautiful beautiful boy.

SPEAKER_03

He's the kid to me because I see he's always gonna be a kid, isn't he?

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah. I've got a real soft spot in my heart for for Robert Irwin and for Bindy Irwin and Terry Irwin, and I loved Steve Irwin and and I've got a real soft spot for those kids. I think that Terry has done a bloody phenomenal job raising that family, and I still remember where I was the day that Australia lost Steve Irwin. I think it was the 4th of September, uh, 2006, which randomly actually is my son's birthday.

SPEAKER_03

Um it was a bizarre year because it was the same year we we lost Peter Brock. Yeah, it was very close to that. Yeah, well, I get that, but I mean it was two iconic real Australians at that particular time.

SPEAKER_05

I speak much more favourably about Steve Irman than I do about Peter Brock, but I do remember actually at the same time, and it's funny that you brought that up because um yeah, I was thinking about the the the two losses in that time in 2006. It was really big, but it was really sad when we lost Steve. He he did wonderful things for our environment and for the animals, he was tremendous, and so are his kids. And um, so that's why I hate when I see bad things written about Robert Irwin and now this stuff of how he's continuously feuding with his mum. Can we normalise? But is he? No, he's not, and he shut it down in the best way.

SPEAKER_03

And everyone feuds with their mum, everyone feuds with their mum.

SPEAKER_05

I feud with my mum. Of course, people feud with their mum. And if you don't feud with your mum, that's fantastic, and I'm so happy for you, and I genuinely mean that. And if you don't have a mum, then my heart is with you as well, you know. Relationships always look different, but he did say something really cool, which is no, I don't feud with my mum. She's not jealous of my success. In fact, she couldn't be more supporting. Yeah, because you see, Terry Irwin, um, she would always fly to set to visit him when you know Robert was doing dancing with the stars in the US, she flew out there as did Bindy. Like they're a close family. Yeah, but he did say something, and I thought, I'm gonna steal that. This is a really cool, really cool piece of advice, which he said he regurgitated from somewhere as well. Which is basically if somebody has a problem with you, then let them text you.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

And if they don't have your phone number to text you, then they don't know you well enough to have a problem with you.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

And yes, of course, it makes sense. It's probably something that we might have even heard before via different, you know, channels or whatever of offering some cool life advice. But it just is that nice reminder that don't worry about all the bullshit, don't worry about what people say about you, stay in your lane. Yes, be close to being close to. Yeah, you're you're massive on that. Yeah, you're really good at that. Disassociation is not the right word, but uh the genuine not caring. And I had to learn now how to do that. Working in radio for so many years and you know, even being on TV, you know, I've I have been very fortunate to have lovely people say wonderful things to me. But obviously, there's arsehole comments out there about me. Um, and it's different now that we're even doing this series. Before when I was on the radio, I would speak my thoughts and my opinions, and then it kind of just disappears into the abyss. It's on a radio frequency, it's radio airwaves, it's gone, right? Yeah, people are but people can now go back and listen to thoughts, opinions, conversations that you have, which is what I want. But I've had to put myself out there more even now, like even with social media. I would go weeks before and not post anything on Instagram. You know me. It's A, it's not naturally my bag, and I haven't always wanted to do it. But now that you've had to kind of lean into it and truly let it go, it's a new weird thing to do, but you have to do it if you want to succeed in whatever your business is.

SPEAKER_03

You are doing it very well, and I can say uh I can say this honestly. Yeah, you do worry uh uh about that pin, you know, and but then that is slowly starting to dissipate, which is fantastic. But people, uh regardless of any shitty comments that might come through, I know as a whole there are a lot, a lot of people out there that are very thankful that you're actually coming out and talking openly and honestly, and letting the guard down and you know, basically letting people be aware of what your actual opinions are and what your thoughts and your feelings and your loves and your hates are.

SPEAKER_05

And you know what? I think the the thing is A, that's just me getting older, but I think we all do that. Well, I hope as we age, you just stop giving a shit a lot more what people think about you. So that's just natural. But something that I've really tried to cement in my life, and you know this, is keep your life like a VIP club. Yeah, no one gets in, no one gets out. Once the people are in that you want in, you guard them, you protect them, you keep them with your life, but you be very particular about that circle and that club that you're letting in. Because we have so little time on this planet, we have so little time.

SPEAKER_03

Don't waste time on the bullshit.

SPEAKER_05

No, don't waste time on the bullshit. What you appreciate appreciates. So when you focus on what you love and who you love, all you can do is just grow that. Don't worry about the bullshit. Do what Robert Irwin says. If someone has a problem with you, let them text you. And if they can't text you because they don't have your phone number, they don't know you well enough to have a problem with you initially. Love it. It's great advice, isn't it? And so, you know, maybe he will be on I'm a celebrity, get me out of here again, and maybe I'll actually start to watch Christy H.
